Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly does ICA do?

In Iowa, ICA serves as the HMIS Lead Agency for the majority of the state. This means that ICA is responsible for managing the HMIS and DVIMS databases to ensure that the data that is submitted is as accurate as possible. The HMIS Lead is also responsible for submitting federal reports out of the databases as is required. These federal reports are key not only for receiving and maintaining grants, but also for analyzing the efficacy of the homeless response system.

Firstly, you’ll want to complete a New HMIS Project Request form (regardless of whether you’re in HMIS or DVIMS). This project request form has a lot of fields, so if any don’t apply to your project, just leave them blank!

Then, one of the System Administrators will be able to create the project and follow up with any additional questions if necessary.

If I find a duplicate client record?

First, double-check that the duplicate client records can be merged - in HMIS, make sure that the ‘lock’ status is the same for each client record. Then, send an e-mail to our helpdesk at support@icalliances.org with a list of all the client IDs that need to be merged. You can fill out this form if it’s helpful to keep the IDs organized; otherwise feel free to just send the list in an email!
